Important Concepts

R / R Studio

knitr

The knitr package enables dynamic report generation with R. Practically, this means that you can create assignment solutions that imbed both code and figures that respond to the question prompt. You can install knitr by typing the following into your R console:

install.packages("knitr")

Useful packages

One of the primary benefits of using the R programming language is the ability to import code developed and distributed by the public, which can faciliate and expedite solving some of the problems associated with

install.packages("qqman")
install.packages("data.table")
install.packages("plotly")

Tidyverse

In addition to the packages noted above necessary for this lab, the course will lean heavily on packages developed by Hadley Wickham contained broadly under what’s called the Tidyverse. These packages include ggplot, dplyr, and tidyr, but all can be downloaded installing the following:

install.packages("tidyverse")

Tidyverse Examples

ggplot

ggplot2 helps in making more elegant graphs suited for publications and putting in reports than base R graphics.

We look at the mtcars data from the tidyverse package.
